Dual Fuel Transport

Dual Fuel's primary business is the retrofitting of heavy goods road transport and barges to run on a blend of hydrogen and diesel.

Hydrogen offers a highly practical solution for the decarbonisation of heavy road transport and barges. Batteries are currently too bulky for their required range and therefore incapable of carrying heavy loads long distances without a recharging network.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are prohibitively expensive, have long lead times and require extensive hydrogen refueling networks which do not currently exist. Hydrogen combustion engine heavy trucks are not yet commercial from a cost or infrastructure perspective.

Dual Fuel therefore provides a transitionary step towards decarbonisation of heavy goods fleets, reducing fleet emissions and facilitating scalable growth of the hydrogen network, whilst actually increasing the fuel effiency of vehicles compared to pure diesel.

To do this, Dual Fuel has developed proprietary hydrogen injection technology that has been proven in recent tests to extend the range of diesel HGVs and reduce their carbon emissions. This technology, which is wholly owned by Dual Fuel, was developed in conjunction with G-Volution, a company experienced in innovative dual fuel conversion of transport with a track record in road and rail.

Tests carried out in December 2023 indicate that this technology allows for the retardation of up to 31% of the diesel used in a HGV engine, simultaneously providing a significant increase in fuel efficiency from enhanced combustion capability of the hydrogen-diesel blend. The testing established the boundary conditions for the most efficient blending of hydrogen and diesel and demonstrated that the technology can increase the range of an HGV by between 300 and 450 km. Consumption of hydrogen gas only generates water and reduces emissions of harmful greenhouse gases. Thus, emissions that would be generated from the displaced diesel are avoided.

Dual Fuel’s business offering provides a low-cost solution such that operators can use existing fleets of diesel trucks and barges to “go green” rather than a having to undertake full replacement with high-cost hydrogen powered vehicles.

DFL is a 100% owned subsidiary of Green House Capital Group PLC, with engineering provided by G-volution Ltd, a leading UK based dual fuel technology company.
